Duties
Teach child development and special education as a regular member of the Faculty of Education
Expectations:
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications
A doctorate in a relevant area from an appropriately accredited institution. Special Education and/or Educational Psychology background. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. Willingness and ability to function in a team setting; responsive to diverse cultural and learning styles. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. Evidence of knowledge of appropriate teaching methodology in the k-12 system including Indigenous principles of teaching and learning. Commitment to the development of students as teachers. Eligibility for British Columbia Teaching Certificate or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the Vancouver Island University Teacher Education Program.Ability to participate in the instruction and development of Special Education program and Child Development programming at the graduate and undergraduate level. Experience supervising graduate students.
